Recover data from Samsung external hard drive

Samsung external hard drives have a good reputation in hard drive market, since it’s widely used by many users around the world, issues related to this hardware become more and more, it may not be the device’s problem, but the data stored on them, recover data from this drive is one of the mostly asked questions.

Problems

To begin with, please check if you hard drive has the following issue or not, if not, you can download our data recovery program, scan the disk and try to recover data; if it has one of the of following problems, fix them first before recovery will save you some time.

Needs formatting

If this error shows, do the following before formatting:

• Run Partition Expert and click on the external hard drive listed in the disk map
• Click on Check Volume and check the two boxes to “Fix found errors” and “Try to fix found bad sectors”
• Click OK and Partition Expert will start to run and try to fix this problem.

Not detected

When plugging in the external hard drive it cannot be detected by the operating system, cannot listed to disk-map File Explorer.

Check if its in Disk Management, if it’s in the disk map, you can format this volume and make it recognizable in File Explorer, but before you click on the Format… option, try to Check Volume with Partition Expert with the above listed steps and you may not need to format at all.

When checking volume fails too, we can go to the format step, don’t worry, data from the formatted hard drive can still be recovered by our program.

In Partition Expert, click on the partition on the external drive, mostly there’s only one drive, when there are many drives on the disk, format them one by one, or just delete all the partitions if needed, again, deleted partitions can be recovered.

Damaged

If, however, the external hard drive is damaged, cannot be recognized by Windows or the Data Recovery program or even our Partition Expert, data on this hard drive cannot be recovered through software method but the professional data recovery services which are more complicated and expensive and result in lucky too.

Recover Data

Now we have fixed problems that may result in hard drive recognize failure, so download the data recovery program for Windows or Mac, install , and run it, go with the following steps to get data back:

1. In the main interface, click on the files types you want to recover, or directly click Next to continue with default setting (recover everything).
2. Then select a location for data recovering, we’ll click on the external hard drive, of course.
3. And then click Scan to scan the drive for recoverable data, results will be listed in the left sidebar and you can click on one of them to preview.

Click Recover to recover selected item. What’s more, the Deep Scan option is also available at the very beginning, you can run this feature if the normal scan fails to recovery what’s on the external hard drive with longer time.
