May you already know how to solve the Disk management convert to GPT disk option greyed out problem in Windows Server 2012 R2, we can actually use Partition Expert to completely replace Server disk management, taking converting to GPT disk operation for example, Partition Expert can finish the conversion without losing data while Disk management has no option but to delete all partitions on the MBR disk

Also Works on Windows Server 2022/2019, Windows Server 2016, 2008 and Windows Server 2003

  1. Free Download the portable server partition software and Run it directly or you can run the bootable media before booting into system
  2. After disk map loaded, click on the MBR disk and choose Convert to GPT Disk
  3. Confirm and Commit and it will convert the disk from MBR to GPT (Guid Partition Table)

convert mbr disk to gpt without data loss, and it's won't damage data on other hard disk partitions or volumes

It's also OK to convert MBR to GPT in diskpart command line if you don't have much important data on the Server system, the theory is the same in Disk management: after converted, everything on the MBR disk, including primary partitions and logical partition in Extended partition, data or files, will be deleted, because there's a command "clean" before "convert gpt"

So when convert to GPT disk greyed out in Disk management again, you can just delete all volumes on it to active this option after backed up everything
