Erase Private Data Instead of Delete Them
We all know that browsers like Chrome, internet explorer (ie), and firefox can delete private data in Windows 7, but how about erase all private data on the hard drive when the IT asset needs to be recycled, how to make sure there's no trace of sensitive data for recovery software, how to make sure the disk is clean and factory reset, we'll try Data Wiper and check how it erases private data.
Data Wiper is the data destruction software, not physically but overwrite the disk with meaningless zeros and ones, which is also the perfect way of protecting data, erase all the traces that original data left behind.
We can go to this page to download portable Data Wiper:
https://disk-tool.com/download/mwiper/mwiper-pro.zip
And run this program from the zip file to save the steps of installing it to the system, now let's check what's in it:
The interface:
The first window of this application is very straight forward; the disk map is loaded with details and friendly colors, explanations are also followed and you can see there's a huge Wipe Now button at the right side of the window; Steps are easy to follow, because there're 1, 2 and 3 guide, let's take a closer look at each area.
1. Wiping Method
In this area, we can click Wipe Free Space or Wipe entire drive; Wipe free space is to wipe the unused space or the space after you deleted or formatted, nothing you can see by your eyes, but traces of the previous data are still there, and Wipe free space is to make sure those traces gone forever; Wipe entire drive, can be used to wipe partition / volume, or you can use this function to wipe entire disk when you click on the disk instead of the partition, so it's actually two in one function.
2. Security
In this area, 5 wiping schemes are listed, first 2 of which are faster and often used, the third one follows, and the last two options are DoD wiping methods, Standard Wiping scheme of nation, slower and the slowest way to erase data, but make recovery an impossible mission.
3. Choose a partition or disk to wipe
In area 3, disk map is loaded, no matter how many disks you have, you can see them all listed here, includes the partition or unallocated space you cannot see in file explorer. Also you can see remaining capacity of the disk with percentages. No matter its unallocated space, partition or disk can be clicked in this area, and it's your choice to wipe them all out, or just wipe free space in them so that you can have a clean system running.
So if we are not satisfied with only deleting private data in browsers, we can wipe the disk and reinstall system, or we can just wipe free space in the partition we used to store downloaded or online records. In the final step, we click Wipe Now and confirm this order by typing Wipe, the keyword, to start.
